Wildfire Public Safety

Wildfire Safety Resources
Wildfire risk mitigation is an important issue for the electric utilities operating in Idaho and the Idaho Public Utilities Commission (PUC). The PUC’s role in wildfire risk mitigation is to help ensure that delivery of utility services is safe, reliable, and efficient.
This page serves as a resource for wildfire information. Listed below are the PUC regulated electric companies’ Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) webpages and their wildfire mitigation plans. Updates will be posted during active events.

Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS)
A PSPS is a preventative wildfire mitigation measure used by electric utilities to reduce the risk of wildfire during extreme weather conditions. The PSPS event can be implemented by the electric utility when there is a high risk of fires, such as during periods of strong winds, dry conditions, and high temperatures, the utility may shut off power to certain high-risk areas to prevent electrical equipment from starting a fire.
